You're part of the beginning

Dear Reader,

The big day is finally here.

Writing Eating Adverbs has been (and continues to be) one of the most emotionally intense creative journeys of my life. Some days I swing from joy to overwhelm before I’ve even finished my coffee. But through it all, I’ve stayed grounded in one truth: this book matters.

It started as an unformed idea, but slowly started to develop into a book. Then, somewhere along the way, it became something more. I remember a moment when the editor stopped during a Zoom call and said, "You know, Tommy, you aren't just writing a book. You are creating a movement."

That really resonated to me. I believe that so many people out there need to hear this. Living your life intentionally, on your own terms, is not selfish - it's a way to become more empowered and then to be more present in all of your relationships. This book - this movement - is about liberating potential and helping people embrace solo activity as a normal, natural, powerful part of living in the world.

And now, the pre-sale campaign is live.

This is your invitation to be part of the beginning. I would love for you to join the first wave of readers who believe that quiet can be powerful, that independence can be joyful, and that living deliberately is worth celebrating.

There are many ways to support the campaign. Yes, you can pre-order a single copy, but there are also tiers designed for groups and communities. Book clubs can bring me in to teach a workshop. Organizations can invite me to deliver a keynote or plenary session. And for those seeking deeper connection, there are tiers that include one-on-one coaching. Every tier is a doorway into something more than a book. It’s a chance to help shape a movement.

Here’s the link to explore the campaign and find the tier that fits you (or your group):

Not everyone can contribute financially and that’s absolutely okay. There are still powerful ways you can help bring this movement to life:

  • Share the campaign on Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn with your friends, family, and network. Use the hashtag #EatingAdverbs and tag me @EatingAdverbs so we can amplify your voice and reach more people who need this message.
  • Personally recommend the book to five people—friends, family members, co-workers—who you think would resonate with the themes of solo joy, intentional living, and reframing independence. A quick text or DM can make all the difference.

Your support, in any form, means the world to me. Thank you for helping Eating Adverbs find its way into the hands and hearts of those who need it most.

With love and deep thanks,

Tommy

PS: The publisher highlighted an author who sold 558 books during their campaign. Hmm. Alright, then. My goal? 559. Let’s make a little history together.

Hi, Reader! I just published my first post on my new Substack, Eating Adverbs. I had planned to use the Substack to share excerpts from my gratitude archive and build toward the book launch. But something happened in January that changed everything, and what came out instead was a post I wasn't planning to write: about retiring from my career, losing my identity, and realizing I'm living a chapter of my own book that I didn't know I was writing. It's called "The Bewildered Beginner," and it's...

Issue #7 - 03/07/2026 The Adverbial Life Notes on Thriving Solo Greetings Reader! I went quiet for a few months. Not because I ran out of things to say, of course. If you know me at all, you know that’s never the problem. I went quiet because the book needed everything I had. And now, here’s the sentence I’ve been waiting to write: Eating Adverbs publishes this spring. The e-book arrives in May. The physical book follows in June. I’m not going to pretend that feels casual. It doesn’t. I...

Issue #6 - 10/19/2025 The Adverbial Life Notes on Thriving Solo Greetings Reader! Some beginnings arrive with fanfare. Others slip in quietly. It's odd to me sometimes just how unobtrusive a powerful beginning can be. This Eating Adverbs book project for instance, started with a simple ten-minute Zoom call with the publisher. There was nothing planned, nothing formed, no clear idea if I even had the capacity to write a book. We just chatted about my fascination with solo activities. But that...
